just when you think you're catching up...

...catastrophe strikes. in the form of a kidney stone. ugh!!! very late wednesday night, i started to get a sharp pain in my lower back. i knew right away it was my kidney. my husband was out of town for the week, i was alone with the kids...i have no family in town...i was freaking out. i've had a kidney stone "episode" about 6 years ago. i've never felt pain that bad before. that time ended with surgery to remove the stone and it was a nightmare (to say the least). this time i knew what was happening, so i just tried my best to meditate, to calm down and get through the pain...but the pain was winning. i started to pass out and get sick and i was afraid for my kids, so i knew i had to call 911. through all that terrible pain and blacking out and paramedics and police all over my bedroom, all i could think about was my poor boys seeing me like this. they were SO brave and helpful. the police were able to take them to a friend's house...thank God for her!!!!! she took such great care of my boys. thankfully, i was finally put out of my misery and put in to narcotic la la land at the hospital. the stupid stone passed into my bladder (hope you aren't eating right now!!!!) and the pain finally stopped. i'll spare you from the rest of the details...but the stone is now out and I'm SO happy. SOOOO happy. my husband got a phone call from the police and caught a flight home that morning...but not before i was released from the hospital. here comes the hilarious part. i had to take a cab home at 7:30 am. no shoes. short pajama shorts, hair everywhere, sick stink all over me (appetite gone yet!?). ohmylord. check please.
whatever...it's OVER and i'm feeling back among the living:) SO...here's to a relaxing weekend you guys!!! woohooo!!!! big xoxox...jenn

so sorry to hear about this. I had a UTI a few weeks ago, and although the pain can not compare, I understand the panic of being alone with the kids when you can not function. Take Good Care!

Bonjour Sweet Jenn! Sorry to read about your health problems but glad to hear they are now over! I just read somewhere yesterday that "there is no greater feeling than the one of pain having gone away"... Rest well and take advantage of the big chunk of summer that is still left! Bisous, LuLu xxx

my mom has been through a kidney stone/hospital episode recently....all i can say is thank goodness for the hardcore, pain-relieving drugs, right?! i'm SO glad that you came through it all like a champ! and tell your husband that we in blogland have voted, and he's not allowed to go out of town anymore! take care sweetie-pie! :)

Oh Jenn! I soooo understand the pain! I have had two one on each side. Yes, the first time was horrific, took me 10 days to recover. The nausea was unbearable the whole 10 days. The second was not as bad because I knew right away what it was, and got my fanny to the ER pronto. IV pain killers are the best-I would describe the pain as going thru natural childbirth, at least that's what the doctors say. If I was there, I would have so come over and taken care of you!! Glad to hear the little beast is gone for now. Do you know my last one was the size of a seseame seed. Tiny. And it caused THAT much pain.

Sending you a huge hug and good vibes, healing thoughts and chocolate...this deserves some very good dark chocolate. and a really good glass of red wine.

Have a restful w/e.

peace,
JaneL

Jenn,
OMG, I'm so glad you are okay. I haven't had a kidney stone myself but I take care of patients that have and they say (the women of course) that it's worse than labor. Thank God for narcotics. LaLa land is exactly where you needed to be. When my patients have this diagnosis, I feel like the morphine fairy, flying around the hospital making everyone feel better!!! I'm glad a friend took care of the boys. When we lived in Ann Arbor we didn't have family around either, so it was hard, I know. Well rest up and take care. Glad you're OK, xo, Amy.

Oooooh! You poor girl. I feel your pain. LITERALLY. I've had several of these episodes myself and they SUCK. The last one happened on the FIRST day after I quit my job. Yeah...fun! I swear, it took longer to recover from the stone than it did to recover from giving birth. So glad you're doing better! Remember to drink lots of fluids!

Dear Jenn, So sorry that you and the boys had to go through this. Oh, my I hope I never have to experience this. Your boys are so brave and now they will have a great story to tell when they go back to school in the fall. Poor Dear Hubby, too. So glad you are home and on the mend. Your description of yourself does sound glamorous. Take care, Chickie Doodle!

You poor thing! Why do these things always happen when the hubsters are out of town? I am so proud of you for surviving it on your own. I bet you feel like you can take on anything now! Side note, I heard if you eat pickles frequently the vinegar helps fight kidney stones from occuring. No idea if it is true, just a thought. Happy weekend!

How horrible! I hope that doesn't happen to you again. Thank goodness it's over, right?! Love your artwork by the way!

Wow! What a nightmare! I can totally sympathize with you. Gallstones for me and the relentless pain they caused. Too bad you can't take them kidneys out! What kind of hospital releases someone without shoes/slippers? Rest and get better!

aliceinparis said...

Oh dear, I missed all this! I am SO GLAD you are feeling better. How terrifying. Passing a kidney stone is one of the WORST pains ever. What an adventure... not the kind one would hope for but an adventure nevertheless. We are always learning and growing from our experiences.

OUCHIE! Sorry to hear you had to go thru this!! But so sweet to hear how brave your boys were!! By the sounds of your latest post, it looks like you're doing much better...so happy to know that! Take care of yourself Jenn!!!

I love your art and your blog! I am soo sorry to hear about your kidney stones. I developed a problem with kidney stones shortly after having my daughter and they were excruciating. I read about taking a shot of olive oil with lemon juice in it online and it actually works. You take it at the first signs of pain and it helps alleviate it! Good luck, hopefully, this might help you if you have them again in the future!

OMG...you poor baby. I can totally relate in some way. When I was pregnant with out second sone I was so sick...in and out of the hospital..just couldn't stop throwing up and our son had to watch me for 8 months barf and live on the couch....I finally passed out too....yikes. It's all a growing experience and they will love the happy healthy mom they are used to. WOW...this tuned out to be a long message.
Well...hope you are feeling aaaaaaaaaaallllllllll better now!!!!
<3
love you and your art!!!!!!
