science is cool

we spent saturday at Argonne Lab's Open House. my husband chris works there and was posted at the "ask a high energy physicist a question" booth. (still makes me giggle!)

he expected to not get very many questions...but they added a "and win a prize" sign...so he was swamped! Non stop line of people asking (mostly) pretty good questions! exhausting...but pretty exciting since "non-science" folks usually steer away from talking to chris about what he does;)

besides the absolute SWARMS of people, it was pretty cool. we saw some way cool science stuff throughout the lab. including chris' office (which was so clean it makes me ill;)). that's Henry sitting at his desk in that 1st photo. security is so tight there that i've never even been in the lab before...so it really was fun to see. amazing that there are people that understand stuff like this:

i've been a busy sewing bee...

i wanted to show you just a little peek at a project i've been working on. it's for the wonderful collaborative book that Chrissie has cooked up. she's getting everything ready for the big photo shoot...i can't wait to see it all put together! the days just fly by lately...where oh where does the time go!! we have a busy weekend ahead, but i'm hoping to tackle a big chunk of my commissions. what do you have planned for the weekend!? whatever you do...have loads of fun and do something creative!! xoxo...jenn

i would have eaten at Einsein Bros Bagels alot sooner if I had know Maira Kalman's artwork was hanging in there!! oh...the bagel was pretty good too:)

kiss and drop off zone

sorta says it all! i had to kiss and drop off both kiddos this week. my big guy started 4th grade on wednesday and my baby went to KINDERGARTEN on friday. they both did absolutely fabulously. they both looked so handsome. they both had great 1st days. the start of a great new school year!

it was a very busy week for us...not only did school start...but my beautiful cousin Chelsea was visiting from Florida! it was so fun to have her here with us for a few days. she is the cutest thing...so sweet...and the boys just loved her to death! she's in grad school and had a big 2 week summer break. so happy we got to see her!

back in the studio today! i have tons to catch up on (man...don't i always!?) so i'll try and stay away from this computer for 1 more day:) i'm so excited about opening a 2nd etsy shop for my vintage treats! i'll show you some things soon!!! happy sunday friends:)

the last day of summer...

it was the last day of summer here at the noodle and lou house. school starts bright and early wednesday morning. school...we are not quite ready for you. we have the new school outfits and new shoes and backpacks all ready to go, we have our thinking caps on (we had a hard time finding those;)) and alarm clocks set.....we are just not quite ready to give up our summer! yes. it's always hard to say goodbye. so, in between our last minute errands and such...we lounged around and enjoyed the sunshine on our patio....

then we hit the downtown area for some ice cream and more sunshine...

and i squeezed in a super quick thrifting stop...yahooo!!

i'm thinking of opening a 2nd etsy shop for my vintage treats that i seem to hoard. really. it's bad folks. but i can't help myself. i love the hunt...love when i find something perfectly aged and wonderful that used to have a spectacular life with folks from long ago. bet those folks, at one time or another, were sorry to see summer go too...

I've been keeping a noodle and lou secret and I'm ready to tell you my happy, happy news!! I just received my copy of the September/October issue of Somerset Studio Magazine and I have seen it with my very own eyes!!! I have a little Halloween painting published in the Expressions section!!! eeeek! I'm sooo thrilled. AND my decorated envelope made the 'letters to the editor' section!!! Thank you wonderful Somerset Studio!! I love you to bits!!! Keep your eyes peeled...the issue will hit news stands soon! yahooOOooooooo!!!!!

and MORE happy, happy JOY for me...is this darling, I mean DARLING dollie that I received as a gift from my most special friend:):) I am the luckiest girl in the world. thank you to my sweet buddy! i mean, HELLO...is this doll not the cutest thing EVER? she is made by Crow Haven Farm . dying over how much I love her. ahhhhh!

okay...deep breaths. major excitement you guys! it all came at such a perfect time too. the boys have been sick most of the week. little lou has walking pneumonia and is on antibiotics. school starts next week! poor babies sick the last week of summer:( all i can say is thank goodness for the Wii!!

the etsy shop update got kinda squashed for this week due to the sickies. but i'm thinking Monday night! how about 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time! let's do it! I'll show you sneak peeks sometime Monday day:) there will be those mermaids i've mentioned and a few more treats. so, just to be official...
